Frequently asked questions
Is PixelPress really free?
Yes — completely. Because compression happens in your browser instead of on expensive servers, there is no reason to charge you, cap usage, or watermark your files.
Are my images uploaded anywhere?
No. Your images are processed locally on your own device using the browser’s built-in image engine. You can even disconnect from the internet after the page loads and keep compressing.
Which formats can I compress?
You can open JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF, and AVIF files, and export them as JPEG, PNG, or WebP. Converting between formats — like PNG to WebP — often cuts file size by half on its own.
How do I compress an image to an exact size, like 100 KB?
Switch the control from “Quality” to “Target KB”, type 100, and PixelPress automatically searches for the highest quality that still fits under 100 KB. Perfect for upload forms with strict limits.
Will compression hurt image quality?
At typical settings (75–85% quality) the difference is often hard to notice while the file shrinks substantially. You stay in control of the trade-off with the quality slider. The exact result always depends on your original image and the output format you choose.
How do I compress a photo to 100KB?
Add your photo, switch the control from “Quality” to “Target KB”, and type 100. PixelPress searches for the highest quality that keeps the file at or under 100 KB. Most photos land close to the target, though the exact size depends on the image — a complex photo may need a slightly lower quality setting to fit.
How do I reduce a picture to 100KB?
Open the compressor, drop in your picture, and choose “Target KB” mode set to 100. You can also cap the width if the image is very large. Pick JPEG or WebP output for the smallest result, then download. Everything runs in your browser, so your picture never leaves your device.
How do I compress an image?
Drag your image into the compressor (or click to browse), choose an output format — JPEG, PNG, or WebP — and adjust the quality slider until the size and look suit you. When you are happy, click Download. For a specific size, switch to Target KB mode instead of using the quality slider.
How do I compress photos in bulk?
The compressor accepts multiple files at once. Drag in a whole folder or select several photos, set your format and quality or target size once, and every photo is compressed with the same settings. Download them one by one or use Download all when the batch finishes.
Which output format should I choose — JPEG, PNG, or WebP?
For photographs, choose JPEG or WebP — both compress photos far more aggressively than PNG. WebP is usually the smallest and supports transparency, while JPEG is a widely compatible choice for older systems. Use PNG only for simple graphics, logos, icons, and screenshots with sharp edges or text, because it is lossless but rarely fits strict size limits for photos.
What if my image cannot reach exactly 100 KB without noticeable quality loss?
Some images — very large photos, detailed scans, or files saved as PNG — cannot shrink to 100 KB without visible loss, no matter which tool you use. That is a real limit of the data inside the image. Try switching the output to JPEG or WebP, capping the max width to 1280 or 1920 px, or accepting a slightly higher target such as 120 or 150 KB. PixelPress always shows you the real result rather than guaranteeing an exact size.
How do I download my compressed image?
Click the Download button next to any finished image to save that single file. For batches, use Download all to save every finished image at once. Files are saved with a -pressed suffix (for example photo-pressed.jpg) so they never overwrite your original, and the download comes straight from your browser’s memory — nothing is uploaded or fetched from a server.
Do I need to install anything or sign up?
No. PixelPress runs in your browser, with no app to install, no account to create, and no watermark added. Open the page, drop your image, and download the result.
